Emi has recently discovered that her mother is in love with another woman, and Emi’s not handling it well. She retreats to the community, where she was born, to stay with her father and his new family and to spend time with her maternal grandmother. Things are much less confusing at her father’s, at least until her extremely intriguing stepsister shows up. Emi soon begins to understand why her mother living her life authentically was so difficult to face.

As fate would have it, he’s got bills to pay, and she can pay them in exchange for borrowing his car. Not willing to let his car go without him, the two set off on a journey that will forever change them and how they see the world.

As the year progresses so does Suzano’s illness and the three have withdrawn to a ranch where they capture on camera their attempts to study the disease, amid moments of both fear and joy.

Meanwhile, yellow jacket protester Yann ends up in the same hospital and becomes something of a rival to Raf. Juggling emergency room chaos with the political divide among patients, the drama comes to a head when the protest makes its way to the hospital and rages around them.

With keen affection and an understanding of its characters, Mars One explores the hopes and expectations, the anxieties and foibles, of a Brazilian family against the backdrop of the 2018 election of Brazil’s far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro.

Early in Mars One, university student Eunice makes her way through a sweaty nightclub toward another woman, making it clearer than ever that she’s probably not destined for the life her family expects. But Eunice’s rapport with her supportive working-class parents doesn’t make coming out any easier. Meanwhile, younger brother Deivinho shows more interest in becoming an astrophysicist than the soccer star his father wants him to be.

The Blue Caftan follows a married couple, Halim and Mina, who run a traditional caftan store in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas. Halim is a skilled tailor, taking his time with detailed and historically significant embroidery. Mina works in the shop dealing with demanding customers ignorant of the time and effort each garment takes.

To help keep up with the demand they hire a talented young apprentice, Youssef. He is eager to learn and Halim is drawn to both his blossoming skills and his calming presence. It is not long before their interest expands outside of their craft and the work gives way to longing glances — all while Mina watches.

In the debut feature from award-wining director Trevor Anderson it’s 1987 and Robin’s arrival at a small-town Alberta middle-school causes a stir.

Being the new kid at school is never easy, and it’s extra challenging for Robin to contend with the discomfort of the other students who aren’t sure of Robin’s gender. Things improve when they become friends with Trevor, the local troublemaker, during a class trip to the West Edmonton Mall. But Robin and Trevor’s friendship is put to the test when they are both attracted to Izzy, leading Robin to question the price they are willing to pay to fit in.
