Meet Gertrude and Cédric, two of the young LGBT people featured in this powerful documentary about the struggle for gay rights in Cameroon where those convicted of same-sex relations face up tofive years imprisonment.
Fearing rejection from their families and dealing with threats of violence, Cedric and Gertrude nevertheless remain optimistic, believing that through their work they can help build a more accepting and safer Cameroon for LGBT people. Meanwhile, prominent lawyer and human rights activist Alice Nkom has taken up the cause by defending those on trial for same-sex relations, and ultimately aims to overturn the law that criminalizes homosexuality.
Similar to last year's Call Me Kuchu, Born This Way is a momentous, moving documentary that examines the persecution faced by Cameroon's LGBT communities and the ways in which these communities are generating hope for a better future.
