It Came from Kuchar

Quirky, campy and queer, the Kuchar brothers blast onto the screen sharing tales about making "no budget" underground films in Jennifer Kroot's documentary, It Came From Kuchar. The so-called "8mm Mozarts" hailed from the Bronx in the 1960s and later from San Francisco with their zany form of filmmaking that inspired future generations of directors like John Waters and Canada's Atom Egoyan. This upbeat and fast-paced film is a testament to the brothers' enchanting spirits as the director sheds light on their lives, their works and their loved ones.

With It Came From Kuchar, Kroot creates the ultimate Kuchar documentary from interviews with other filmmakers; with Kuchar star Linda Martinez, and, of course, with George and Mike themselves. The film also follows George's film class as they create their latest motion picture, and includes clips from old Kuchar classics Hold Me While I'm Naked, The Devil's Cleavage and the quasi-porno Thundercrack!

The brothers share minimal screen time, but their unique talents and shared energy carry on throughout the film. It Came From Kuchar, with its mix of biography and comedy, is sure to inspire a new generation of Kuchar fans. For seasoned aficionados, join us in revisiting the filmmakers who brought us the snappiest, campiest dialogue, the flashiest UFOs and that sweaty maintenance guy who lifts weights in his spare time.
