A Night To Remember

The Bata Shoe Museum played host to the Inside Out Festival Launch and Silent Auction on April 24th and the shoe fit perfectly as more than 700 glamourous queer Cinderellas schmoozed, danced and shared their excitement over the upcoming Festival long after the clock struck midnight.

There were line-ups around the corner outside and inside, the energy was infectious. After almost a year of planning, it was fantastic to finally share the Festival line-up with our audience - both veteran Festival-goers and first-time attendees.

A highlight of the evening was our Silent Auction. Thank you to all the generous Silent Auction donors who contributed to this year's fundraiser. Please see below for the full list of donor names. With the success of the Silent Auction our Festival Launch raised close to $12,000.

Adamo Ruggiero was a brilliant host, charming the crowd with his humour, sharing his own personal coming out story and explaining why he feels the Festival is so important to the Toronto LGBT communities.

As I explained at my time in front of the microphone, the 19th edition of Inside Out will educate, entertain and engage audiences as we highlight the diversity of the queer community here in Toronto and also offer a glimpse at the successes and struggles that LGBT people face in countries around the world.

The Festival is a special place, different from other festivals, different from other social events. The Festival provides a chance to come together to celebrate who we are with no fear and no judgement - just the embrace of friends we know and those we don't..and the Festival is probably the only place in Toronto where people actually enjoy the line-ups!

Whether it was the first time you were at a movie that you didn't feel weird holding your partners hand, the one place where you saw your experience and your story up on the screen or most importantly...The one place where you walked a hard mile in someone else's shoes and realized their journey was not so different than your own-this is the heart of Inside Out. Make sure you are part of the experience.

If you weren't able to come out to the Launch, you'll have another chance to be part of a fabulous Inside Out party at the Bata Shoe Museum as we celebrate opening night at the museum on May 14.

The night in pictures!
